A Booster fan is often required for a concrete high-rise condominium with the In-Slab style dryer duct. B.C.DryerDucts Only Inc. does not currently sell or install booster fans. We would suggest you do not invest money into a booster fan until you have had our consulting and service.
The
booster fan for a clothes dryer duct needs to be installed correctly. The one picture here was done well with the exception of the material used on the bottom section of the round fan.
You will notice that it has been installed with fireplace material or B-Vent we talk about here. Not an issue yet but, it will become a problem. You can already see the 'kink' or bend in this thin tin like material. I would call this the worst type of material to hook up a clothes dryer.
I was surprised to see this material starting to show up on clothes dryers in and around the Vancouver area. Then I saw it was being sold as a " Dryer Duct Kit " . This material is quickly moving up to one of the top three problems with clothes dryers and the connection point.
The round object attached to the left of the fan is an moisture sensor to cause the fan to automatically turn on. This is an extra that can be installed so the fan will start up and run when your clothes dryer is turned on.
They can also be set to run a few minutes after a load of laundry. In theory this helps remove excess moisture from the in-slab duct after doing several loads of clothing. This particlular 'theory ' will not alway's work to your advantage.
Air and water is very complicated and running the fan for a longer period may or may not be helping, it may depend on weather condition's, rain or moisture in the air. I would suggest less loads, one after the other, is likely going to cause more water to remain in the dryer ducting.
A booster fan will help get the moisture (water) from your clothes dryer to the exterior of your condominium.
You want the wet air to exit your suite ASAP. This may help prevent a leak on your condo ceiling, or worse, damage to your structure. You will still need to clean your dryer ducting on a regular schedule.
How often you need dryer duct cleaning depends on many factors. Our service and consulting will help figure out your requirements and time frame for dryer duct cleaning.
We have had several customers state that they were told that they would no longer have to clean their dryer duct after the booster fan is installed.
This is simply not true and perhaps just a mistake on behalf of the booster fan installer. A booster fan needs maintenance and cleaning periodically too.
Please don't mount them inside of a wall or seal them in. A booster fan will need regular maintenace just like your dryer duct. They do not last forever. They may stop for no particular reason or the reason may be that the fan blades are dirty.
